The College of Engineering (COE) at Kansas State University (KSU) offers a wide range of Bachelor of Science (BSc) degrees spanning 11 major fields of specialization. Many of these areas of study include their own separate program options, allowing students to pursue studies most applicable to their career goals and aspirations.
   The architectural engineering program prepares students with fundamental engineering competence in the analysis and design of buildings and their systems. Specifically, students apply engineering fundamentals and design principles for engineering the infrastructure of architecture, including structural, mechanical and electrical building systems and all the subdisciplines that are related to these primary designations.
   The biological systems engineering program prepares students for professional engineering careers relating to the production and processing of agricultural and biomass materials for food, non-food, and fiber products while conserving natural resources and protecting the environment. Biological, machinery and environmental engineering are special biological systems engineering options.
   Chemical engineering students apply mathematics and science, especially chemistry, to design and manufacture diverse products. Some of the products focused on include: fuels, medicine, plastics, paper, food and semiconductors, as well as living tissues such as artificial skin.
   The civil engineering program prepares students to plan, design, construct, and operate structures, transportation facilities, water supply and waste treatment systems, and water resource facilities. Construction, structural, and environmental engineering are curriculum options.
   The computer science curriculum emphasizes a broad foundation of computer organization, programming languages, software engineering, distributed computing systems, data systems, algorithms, data structures, programming systems and environments, and mathematics, together with electives that focus on some aspect or application of computers.
   The computer engineering curriculum focuses on circuits, electronics, electromagnetics, digital systems and microprocessors, as well as software in programming languages, algorithms, data structures and operating systems.
   The construction science and management program prepares students to be professional constructors, operating as managers of personal resources, financial resources, material and machines. The program is an engineering-based management program designed to produce technically competent managers of construction.
   The information systems program focuses on the use of computers to solve problems arising in the operations of business and commerce. Specializations include information systems analyst/designer, database manager, management information systems specialist, application programmer and communications analyst.
   The electrical engineering program prepares students to design systems that deal with electricity or electronics, including microchip technology, bioengineering, wireless communications systems, digital and analog electronics, power generation and distribution, and transmission, conversion and processing of energy and information.
   Industrial engineering students learn how to design work methods, manufacturing and production processes, facilities and management systems to produce goods and services. Students learn how to effectively use resources and maximize system productivity.
   The mechanical engineering program prepares students to design machines and systems for the conversion, control, and transfer of energy. Within mechanical engineering, the nuclear engineering option prepares students to design systems that deal with radiation.
